Java Runtime
Environment (JRE): |
software required to run Java
programs. |
|
|
What is Java?
Java is a programming language and
its runtime environment developed by
Sun Microsystems. Java was
developed on the basis of the
revolutionary idea, "Write Once, Run
Anyware." Once a program is
developed, it can be run a wide
range of environment including
Windows and Linux. Furthermore,
Java source codes are openly
available and can be used or
modified free of charge.(The Virtual
Machine, the core part, was also was
also made openly availabe as Open
JDK.) It is now activey developed
by development communities,
corporations, and individuals,and
used in a variety of fields such as
cellphones as well as personal
computers and servers. Other
characteristics of Java include its
application to networks programming.
Expecting the expansion of networks,
Sun Microsystems designed Java to
take into account network
environments. In January 2010,
Oracle bought Sun Microsystems,
taking on the primary control of the
management and development of Java. |
